New Builds

Constructed from Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), the home was built in just under 16 weeks (compared to around 18 months for a comparable two-storey dwelling). A highly insulated, airtight building structure, the design also features high performance double-glazed windows, light-coloured Colorbond roofing to reduce summer solar absorption, and Weathertex cladding, with a better than carbon neutral footprint.

The home also features a 5kW solar PV system and solar hot water by Solar Gain, giving the home a net zero operational carbon footprint. The design was carefully evaluated using an eTool Life Cycle Assessment, achieving an overall carbon saving of 77% compared to a typical two-storey home.

Designed to take advantage of optimum solar orientation and to enhance opportunities for natural and cross ventilation, the home has a 7.0 star NatHERS rating. The polished concrete ground floor provides a high level of thermal mass, helping to keep the home cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

Haiku ceilings fans kindly provided by Big Ass Fans provide stylish summer cooling in the main living areas, and energy efficient LED lighting by Premium Lighting is used throughout. Internal and entry doors were supplied by Corinthian Doors.  The bedroom interiors were styled by Matt & Kim Di Costa.

Water efficient plumbing fixtures and fittings have been supplied by Sea of White; low VOC paints and Cabinets By Dario using E0 MDF and particleboard have been used internally to help reduce unhealthy off-gassing and improve indoor air quality. SMEG appliances were provided by Liebe + Haus in Myaree.
